We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a positive outlook and an enquiring mind to help us shape the future of geomorphology within the Environment Agency.

This is a permanent position within our national geomorphology team in the Environment and Business Directorate. You will provide invaluable technical as well as administrative support on a broad range of our national projects and initiatives.

Our work is diverse so you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with all of your team mates on projects ranging from developing strategies and national position statements, to providing advice to government and stakeholders, to producing training materials, guidance and support for our operational colleagues. As you grow in role you also will take responsibility for leading on specific projects.

Some of your work will be pre-planned, complex and long-term, some will be reactive and delivered to tight deadlines; all will provide challenge and opportunities for professional growth. You will be well organised, tenacious and flexible in order to meet the changing needs of our business, adapting as our priorities shift to deal with emerging issues.
You will join nine friendly and enthusiastic colleagues in our national geomorphology team. We are a dispersed yet tight-knit team working in various offices across England. We champion geomorphology and provide strategic steer for our discipline within the Environment Agency. We also support our area-based geomorphology colleagues in working to protect, enhance and restore the natural environment.
We are looking for a friendly, positive individual with excellent interpersonal skills to build strong and productive working relationships with others. You will be a highly effective communicator, as willing to provide support to your colleagues as you are adept at securing support from others. Our ideal candidate is good at analysing data and information, is comfortable with technical detail but also is able to step back and consider the broader implications and context to the issue at hand. Creative thinkers, problem solvers and those with inquisitive minds are always welcome here.

You will be well-organised and have the confidence to take the initiative and work independently as necessary. You will be qualified to at least degree level in a relevant technical discipline and be able to demonstrate a strong technical understanding of fluvial or coastal geomorphology as well as its practical implications for water and land management.
Closing Date: 3rd July 2018 at 23:55 hours

Interviews will be held in Warrington on Tuesday 17 July.

Your work location is flexible upon agreement but we would prefer that you sit alongside a team mate in either Warrington, Preston, Leeds, Shrewsbury, Welwyn Garden City or Exeter.

This is an office-based job but we will provide you with opportunities to get out on site with operational colleagues to learn more about what geomorphologists do within the Environment Agency. Occasional travel is required to other Environment Agency offices. You will be encouraged to support our incident response work, in line with your skills and experience.

For further information please contact Jonty Gibson on 020 3025 6546 or at jonty.gibson@environment-agency.gov.uk.
