We’re looking for a freshwater Environmental Monitoring Officer to help deliver our environmental monitoring and investigations programme in Kent, South London & East Sussex area. The role will include some field based biological survey work, laboratory analysis of biological samples, as well as multifunctional data analysis, interpretation and reporting using both standard and bespoke computer applications. The high quality data that we produce is essential in contributing to the delivery of our monitoring programme, required to fulfil our national and European commitments. The role also services information requests to supply this data to both internal and external customers
Our Analysis & Reporting team provides freshwater biological, fisheries and water quality data to support and inform both area and national monitoring obligations. Our multifunctional data analysis & reporting provides high quality evidence to inform decision making & environmental outcomes. We deliver a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency’s statutory responsibilities relating to national and European legislation
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Monitoring Officer with freshwater ecological field, office & laboratory-based experience. You’ll be qualified to a higher education level in a relevant discipline and possess ability and/or knowledge of:

• Biological survey work for freshwater macro-invertebrates and macrophytes;
• Identification and analysis of aquatic macro-invertebrate specimens to species level;
• Data analysis and interpretation using biological and chemical metrics and indices for use in investigations and reports;

Other key requirements for this job include excellent communication skills, attention to detail, report writing, proficiency in word, excel and database management and a passion for analysis and problem-solving

The role will be based in Orchard House, Addington, although travelling to field locations across the relevant area is required and therefore the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence.
