Within Operations Field Services, you’ll work with and lead teams to maintain rivers, watercourses and coastal defences, working to counteract the causes of flooding and pollution. This role is 75% field based and 25% office based.

You’ll be the lead team member in the field, ensuring everyone works efficiently and safely delivering routine maintenance of rivers, watercourses and coastal defences. This hands on role involves working outside in all weathers. We undertake a range of activities, from strimming, debris and tree clearance to construction and maintenance.
In addition to this you will be one of 2 people providing a service to our waterways team by manning a tidal lock for navigation purposes, this will involve working a rosta of 4 days on 2 days off (inc weekends) for the boating season which runs from April to November annually.

We act quickly when incidents occur. Once trained you’ll take part in an emergency call out rota to respond to flooding and environmental incidents, sometimes at short notice
You will be part of a team contributing to the development and management of small projects such as vegetation management, construction work, maintaining rivers and repairing our defences to provide a high standard of flood protection to our customers. You will work efficiently, safely and to a high standard, often working within CDM regulations.
We can also work across the country when called upon to assist other areas in incident response and environmental incidents.
You should demonstrate a positive, adaptable approach and a ‘can do’ attitude as a worthy team player. Organisational skills and a flexible approach are essential. You must understand site health and safety requirements and you’ll need effective communication skills to work with our own staff and members of the public. You will also need to coach and encourage others on site.

Ideally you’ll have a good level of environmental awareness. Experience with tablet computers and familiarity with mobile technology will be useful.

The ideal candidate will have leadership experience, a foundation of practical skills, care about the environment and a practical hands on approach. Be able to work weekends as specified to provide the service to the lock.
