Joining this crucial area of the business, you’ll be responsible for delivering exciting and challenging Projects and Packages of Projects from initial strategic planning through to detailed design and construction. You will manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams, commissioning external suppliers from our frameworks, motivating them to achieve excellent standards. Project management, team working, problem solving, client liaison and stakeholder engagement will sit at the heart of your role, so you’ll be confident building strong working relationships. Everything you do will bring you the daily reward of knowing that you are helping to save lives, protect homes and businesses and create a better place for people and wildlife.
Ncpms, part of the National Assets, Operations and Incidents directorate, provides professional programme and project delivery for the organisation. Key areas of work: appraising and delivering important projects, mainly flood defence schemes; across the Yorkshire and North East Areas. Working as a team is very important to us and we recognise the value each team member contributes. This is a rewarding role as a member of the North Unit team based in Leeds or Newcastle
Alongside a degree in civil engineering, environmental science/management, geography, geology or similar, you’ll have solid experience in both project and contract management preferably with experience in flood risk management or on construction schemes. An understanding of hydraulic modelling, feasibility assessment and outline design would be an advantage. Ideally, you will hold or be working towards PRINCE2 Practitioner, Association for Project Management (APM) or have similar project management qualifications. Also, you will be a member of or working towards membership of a professional body such as the Institution of Civil Engineers, Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. You’ll need to demonstrate your exceptional track record in delivering projects to fast track programmes and show us your excellent leadership skills. You’ll be a first-class communicator, mentor and skilled negotiator, used to delivering desired outcomes on time and to budget, promoting continuous improvement.
