We are looking for a Scientist (Water quality) to support the interpretation of a wide range of real time and high resolution water quality data. In addition you will develop the use of data, equipment and associated infrastructure to enhance the Agency’s capabilities with respect to agile monitoring and the full range of our statutory monitoring program.
The high resolution evidence produced is vital if we are to better understand our water environment.
The National Instrumentation Service provides support to all high resolution water quality monitoring activities undertaken across the Agency. We deliver a vital service that underpins the Environment Agency’s vision for water quality monitoring and plays a central role in the development and expansion of agile monitoring networks. The team also supports a wide range of high profile stakeholder partnerships and commercial activities.
We are seeking a Scientist with extensive ecology and water quality knowledge. You will be a graduate, or hold substantial and relevant vocational experience. In addition you should possess proven ability and/or knowledge of:

Field based Water quality and ecology monitoring practice

Proven ability in the interpretation of real time and or high resolution water quality/ecology data

Working knowledge of the requirements of WFD and other statutory drivers.

Design and development of water quality/ecology monitoring programmes

Other key requirements for this job include excellent communication skills, proficiency in word, excel and database management along with a passion for innovation and problem solving.

The role will be based at Caversham Lakes Depot. There will be frequent and sometimes unscheduled travel across the Agency to access remote field sites. As a result the post requires a full UK driving licence.
