A key part of what we do is manage flood risk from the sea and rivers to people and property through management, maintenance and replacement of a diverse range of flood risk assets. These include flood defences, earth banks, walls, pumping stations, flood storage reservoirs, sluices and control structures.

This role is extremely varied and draws upon a range of transferrable skills. You'll deliver targeted maintenance works in line with our annual programme. You'll manage key asset databases and input into our programming and financial forecasting. There will be opportunities to manage delivery of small scale repair and improvement engineering schemes on coastal and fluvial assets acting as a designer under CDM Regulations you will produce pre-construction information documents alongside design drawings.
As a team player, you'll be maintaining and enhancing relationships with our customers and support delivery of targets ensuring our assets are in a high state of readiness for future flooding.
The Asset Performance team lead on the planning and management of asset related engineering activity in Essex. This includes engineering design, health and safety management and management of external contractors to deliver a best value programme of work and ensure assets are operationally fit.
The team plan, monitor and control projects to maximise the efficient and effective use of finances, resources and people.
You will be qualified to degree standard (or equivalent) ideally in a civil engineering discipline, or have sufficient experience to work at an equivalent level. You will have strong communication skills to enable positive conversations with flood defence owners to ensure they maintain their defences and to prevent defences from being damaged.

Project Management experience and/or knowledge of contract management and procurement frameworks will give a distinct advantage.

Other key requirements for this job include excellent written communication skills; proficiency in data and information management in order to make evidence-based decisions; you will be able to work as part of a team and individually, and you'll be able to manage a varied workload.

The grade rate for the role is £27,138

Hours 37 per week.

A full UK driving licence is essential.

Some standby and on-call work will be required. You'll also be required to take part in incident response. Your line manager will confirm the specific arrangements with you depending on your role.
