We’re looking for a Hydrometry and Telemetry officer to support the team in delivering our data collection and validation responsibilities.

The role requires both office and field based activities, with some flexibility to vary the proportions of each depending on workload and experience.
The field work element involves the routine maintenance of data collection devices including rain gauges, data loggers, gauging equipment and telemetry systems, ensuring that the data collected is of the highest possible standard.

The office based activities include inputting and quality assuring data collected from our network and responding to data requests from both internal and external customers.
The Hydrometry and Telemetry team provides support to core telemetry, hydrometric and hydrological activities undertaken in the East Anglia Area. It delivers a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency’s statutory responsibilities relating to flood forecasting and water resources.
Field work – practical experience
Awareness of different hydrometric monitoring methods and the resulting data.
Awareness of data transmission systems and data collection & management systems.
Experience of data management.
Driving licence required.

Accurately and safely collects, enters and maintains data in line with Environment Agency procedures and stores data, or material, for subsequent analysis safely.
Examines and tests out sources and validity of data/information before using; makes clear the status or reliability of material used. Undertakes more data gathering where necessary.
H&T Instrumentation Operational Management
Ensure continued data quality by maintaining and calibrating field equipment to national standards.
Assesses site condition periodically to ensure continued site integrity.
Installs H&T monitoring equipment so that it provides timely, consistent data to the required resolution and accuracy.
H&T Systems Management
Provides day-to-day system administration and support in accordance with established procedures.
Investigates and resolves problems with systems to maintain underlying business processes and continuity of service.
