As a Team Member in our Nottingham Operations Field Team you will be working on river and flood defence assets, to prevent and respond to flooding and pollution.

You will be working in a diverse team of 14 people and help to carry out routine maintenance and repair projects efficiently, safely and to a high standard.

This hands-on role involves working in a team, outside in all weathers you will be involved in a wide range of activities, from cutting vegetation by strimming or mowing machinery, to clearing debris, fallen trees, small construction projects, to repairing earth flood banks and building sandbag walls. A lot of our work is maintaining all of our flood defence assets. You will receive training in all the skills that will be required of you. You will often work in public areas and therefore will be expected to act professionally.

We act quickly when there’s an emergency such as flooding or pollution. You will be included in our 24 hour call-out rotas, responding with your team to operate our assets such as water pumps, flood barriers and flood gates and play an active role in protecting homes and business from flood risk.
The team is a mixture of men and women, carrying out a maintenance programme on rivers and watercourses throughout Nottinghamshire including the River Trent and its tributaries responding to environmental incidents, such as flooding and pollution, 24 hours a day. We work across the country when other areas need assistance responding to environmental incidents. Due to our incident role the team live in the area that we are based driving themselves to work daily.
You should show a positive, adaptable approach and a ‘can do’ attitude as a committed team player. You will be well organised keeping your tools and PPE in top condition. You will need good communication skills to work with customers and partners

We would like you to have a good level of environmental awareness. You will need some experience using, or be willing to learn to use, tablet-style computers and mobile technology.
Ideally you will have some experience with plant and machinery and a foundation of practical skills like concreting and minor construction work although not essential to this role.

The ideal candidate will be friendly and willing to work with others.

You’ll need to be able to travel to a number of sites therefore a full UK driving licence is required
You’ll be required to take part in Standby rota and therefore need to be able to travel to the depot within 45 minutes.

The role will be based in Trentside Nottingham Offices and interviews will be held there week commencing 29th January 2018.
