Do you want to make the world a better place? Are you passionate about protecting against natural threats and hazards? We are looking for a great person to join us as Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Officer. This is a vital role in our department. You will be expected to help support our teams in prioritising, planning and delivering asset repair, maintenance and reconditioning work, as well as contributing to national projects and supporting our workforce and contractors, through the creation and development of the FCRM programme.

You will ensure efficient delivery of our increased asset maintenance programme, ensuring assets work safely and effectively in flood events. You should be able to engage with customers, communicating often complex information. You will help us deliver improvements to assets, procedures and data and mentor others on policies, procedures and techniques.

You will be expected to participate in our flood response rota, a 24 hour rota that ensures flood warnings are issued in line with our policies and flood defence assets operate effectively in flood events.
The Asset Performance team is responsible for ensuring FCRM assets are designed, constructed, inspected, surveyed, assessed, maintained and operated in a safe, effective and efficient manner, to reduce flood risk to people and property and ensure they are operated to agreed service levels and standards.
During flood events, we operate assets to deliver an operational response with our partners. The team extensively engage with the public in regarding maintenance and performance of our assets.
You will have experience in Project Management, an awareness of PRINCE2 Project Management methodology would be beneficial. You will also have a commensurate knowledge of managing health, safety and wellbeing in a maintenance and construction environment.
You will have a background in asset management with good planning and data management skills and are able to demonstrate a meticulous, conscientious and logical attitude to your work. You will have a working knowledge of a range of IT packages, including MS Office, AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
Your excellent customer service, communications and interpersonal abilities will be complemented by your enthusiasm and ambition to achieve defined deadlines and targets.
Candidates are expected to hold a suitable degree. Most roles in Asset Performance require a Civil Engineering degree however other suitable technical or science degrees and/or related experience will be considered.
Candidates should ideally hold a professional qualification or membership with a relevant professional body.

Assets Management
The Asset Performance Team ensure that our flood defence assets operate in a safe, effective and efficient manner. This involves managing the whole life of our assets, from construction through to replacement or if necessary, decommissioning. This includes developing detailed asset system management plans and preparing pre-feasibility studies, schemes and engineering assessments to produce a continuous programme of asset improvement, in order to meet national standards and targets.

The effective operation of our assets in a flood event is essential to our work. The health, safety and welfare of our staff, contractors and the public is a fundamental part of all our work and in particular the CDM regulations 2015, relate to most of the work we do.

Data and Information Management
The role will involve managing information into and from our web based asset management database. All your work would be expected to be in line with our management systems and undertaken according to national policies, processes and standards.
You would be expected to be able to review a wide range of technical reports, ensuring we effectively act upon the information and correctly record data in our systems. At times, you will be able to effectively communicate similar technical information, decisions and data to members of the public.
