This is a fantastic opportunity to lead Water, Land & Biodiversity teams to improve our amazing, rivers, coasts and estuaries across the North East for local communities and wildlife.

You'll be a highly visible operational leader, able to organise, inspire and motivate people, and work in partnership to achieve great outcomes. You'll know how to make our corporate ambitions and local priorities resonate with a wide range of audiences including key internal and external stakeholders so that we deliver the best improvements on the ground. You'll bring a natural passion and energy to the role and in return be supported by great people in the team. Your responsibilities will include:
Playing a leading role in helping to deliver our ambitious plan for the North East environment, Maximising opportunities to work with key partner organisations and local communities to deliver more

Leading your department in a way that grows all the elements in our ‘how we do things’ culture. Managing the Environment Agency's reputation with communities across the North East, including through the media
Playing a major role in the North East’s incident response to ensure we are prepared, planned and trained to ‘Think Big, Act Early and Be Visible’.
• You'll play a key leadership role as a member of the North East Leadership team
• You’ll lead a diverse operational department of around 45 people covering a wide range of roles around how we understand, and improve our rivers, coasts and estuaries for people and for wildlife.

You'll be expected to work closely with both local and national colleagues to shape our future business.
This is an important and challenging role. You will need to deliver results through others from across the organisation and through our partners. You will be effective at influencing and persuading, be a capable communicator and have a strong customer and partner focus. You will use these skills and your understanding of business processes to shape how the organisation operates and be confident in representing the Environment Agency to influence senior external stakeholders.

You will be a natural people leader who provides a positive role model for an open, inclusive and trusting culture where people can be their best. You will know how to make the best use of available resources and continually seek innovation to deliver outcomes for people living and working in the North East. As a member of the Area Leadership Team you will be committed to developing yourself and those around you.

You will be based in either our Newcastle or Darlington Office and be expected to travel to other locations in the North East and elsewhere.

Driving licence
If you are applying from the Civil Service please note that the Environment Agency is not a part of HM Civil Service and you would not be a Crown Servant in the event of being appointed. Therefore, you will not be eligible for continuous service.
