As a Team Member in our local Field Teams you will be maintaining our river and flood defence assets and responding to flood and pollution incidents. You will be working as part of a diverse team and will help to carry out routine maintenance and project works, efficiently, safely and to a high standard. You need to be able to communicate professionally with our partners and members of the public.

This hands-on and physical role involves working as part of a team, outside in all weathers. You will be involved in a wide range of activities, from grass cutting using strimming and mowing equipment, to clearing debris/blockages, and tree work using chainsaws. We carry out some machine work so experience of driving tractors/excavators would be advantageous but not essential. You may be involved in repairing earth flood banks and other flood defence assets. You will receive training in all the required skills.

You will participate in our 24 hour call-out rosters, responding with your team to operate our assets including pumps, flood barriers and penstocks. You will play an active role in protecting homes and businesses from flood risk.
The Operations Field teams are based at our local Depots at Askham, Gainsborough and Owston Ferry. We deliver a maintenance programme on rivers and watercourse across the area, we respond to flooding and environmental incidents both day and night. We provide advice and support to our colleagues and professional partners.

We also work across the country when called upon to assist other areas in incident response and environmental incidents.
Someone with Field team experience with good communication skills. Ideally having the proven ability and be able to demonstrate the following:-

•Experience in a range of mobile plant and equipment
•Qualifications and experience in chainsaw operations
•Vermin control
•Plan and organise the routine for the day with minimal supervision
•Responding to flood and environmental incidents
•Deputise for the Lead Team Member in times of absence
•Communicate at a variety of levels, both internally & externally
•Excellent customer service skills both written and verbal
•self motivation, with the ability to work well in a team/wider teams as well as independently and delivering often conflicting demanding work, often within short deadlines
•working knowledge and experience of flood risk management policy, strategy, health and safety (CDM) and environmental legislation
•Personal skills requirement: taking initiative, good time management, flexibility, problem solving and decision making
•Basic understanding of IT technology including smart phones and tablets
A full valid driving licence is essential. HGV, LGV and category B+E would be advantageous
