That’s why we’re constantly working to reduce the risks to people, households and businesses from flooding and help people to improve, protect, value and enjoy their local environment. And it’s why an Electrical Engineering career with the Environment Agency is so challenging, diverse, exciting and rewarding.

We are looking for graduate Electrical Engineers to join our well established and highly experienced MEICA teams (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation) in the North East or South West. You’ll follow a structured and well supported training programme that satisfies the requirements of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) to become a Chartered Engineer (CEng). Once completed, you will be in a great position to apply for a wide range of suitable professionally qualified roles in the Environment Agency.
Join our MEICA teams and you will be involved in developing strategies, developing the IT support tools and providing expert technical support and advice to our field teams.

Our MEICA teams also lead on environmental management and in particularly, energy efficiency therefore you will bringinnovation and passion to make a difference and be part of the solution and contributing to our challenge of becoming a carbon net zero organisation by 2030
As a graduate you'll take on a real mix of internal/external projects. Each project will help you build skills in everything from asset management to project feasibility, planning to design, and project management to site supervision and incident response. Once you’ve gained the full range of relevant skills, attributes and capabilities, you can complete your chartered professional review. Pass and you’ll be a Chartered Engineer (CEng). It is likely to take between four/five years to complete our structured training programme.

About you
To join the graduate programme, you'll need an accredited Electrical Engineering degree (or BEng (hons) plus an appropriate Masters degree or approved further learning to Masters level). Visit the IET website to ensure before applying that your degree meets the criteria.

Assessment centres will take place in May/June 2021. This will be initially online interviews with possible second interviews at a location local to the advertised vacancies in line with government COVID restrictions at the time.

Our 2020 Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy’s long-term vision is for: a nation ready for, and resilient to, flooding and coastal change – today, tomorrow and to the year 2100. Therefore, you will not be eligible for continuous service.
