We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious individual to be involved and lead on a wide range of Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) work in the Cumbria Partnership and Strategic Overview (PSO) team.

The successful applicant will provide technical FCRM advice and support to team members and internal and external customers. Liaison and engagement with stakeholders is a key part of this role, including working with the Lead Local Flood Authority and other Risk Management Authorities (RMAs). You will be expected to work with our partners to identify and manage flood risk management projects and work to influence development on the flood plain. We are looking for an excellent communicator who is able to work well under pressure and manage a busy workload.
PSO works with other Environment Agency functions, RMAs and communities to deliver flood and coastal risk management outcomes. Activities include:
• Delivery of projects to reduce flood risk
• Working with RMAs to better understand flood risk
• Managing high profile issues and customer expectations
• Participating in incident management
• Planning flood risk management
• Preventing inappropriate development in flood plains
• Producing information to support objectives
We are seeking individuals with proven technical ability and experience of working with others to deliver results. The desire and commitment to building relationships and influencing work with customers is essential. You will be qualified to at least degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and have proven ability and knowledge of the following:
• Flood and coastal risk management - project scoping, design and delivery (essential)
• Relevant legislation such as the Flood and Water Management Act
• Partnership working - developing and maintaining excellent customer relationships (essential) and securing partnership funding (desirable)
• Strong communication, prioritisation and organisation skills to manage a demanding workload (essential)
• Knowledge of flood risk maintenance and natural flood risk management (required for one role)
• Strong Influencing Skills - working with others to solve problems and deliver environmental outcomes (essential)
• Delivering high profile work and managing political sensitivities (desirable)
