We need a dynamic person to join the Climate Change team in the Environment and Business Directorate. It is a high profile role focussed on influencing Government policy and leading analysis, design and implementation of approaches that turn energy efficiency and/or greenhouse gas reduction policy into effective operational activity. We are offering a permanent post reporting to the Manager of the Industrial Decarbonisation Team.

The work includes advising and influencing government on energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction policies. You need to be able to work directly with government officials, network and inform relevant external bodies, prepare senior level briefings and support our national level engagement. To do this requires gathering views of stakeholders and producing technical, legally sound advice to inform Environment Agency positions. The work is varied and often reactive therefore you need to respond swiftly to deadlines. The role also looks into the business to support changes in delivery, advises on issues and gathers evidence to inform Environment Agency and government thinking.

You need to be politically astute, a strategic thinker and a great communicator. You have experience or transferable skills for implementing and/or shaping government environmental policies.
The Industrial Decarbonisation Team is part of the wider Sustainable Business and Development Department of the Environment and Business Directorate (E&B). The team provides the national lead on Emissions Trading, the Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme, the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, Climate Change Agreements, Ozone Depleting Substances and Fluorinated gases. The team interacts with several government departments to help shape policy and interacts with colleagues in other Environment Agency Directorates to translate policies into effective practice.
You must be able to engage and communicate effectively with a range of customers to ascertain customers’ needs and perceptions and balance wider stakeholder demands.

You have a track record of successfully influencing individuals and organisations at senior levels within large organisations.

You have direct experience, or relevant transferable experience, of informing government policy and/or designing, implementing and supporting an approach to translate it into cost-effective operational activity. Experience with industrial decarbonisation policies would be advantageous.

You have a track record of analysing data and translating this into information to inform policy development or decision making.

You will be experienced in working effectively within geographically dispersed teams and be prepared to work across multiple functions.

Experience of working in a commercial and/or project management environment is desirable.

National travel may be required occasionally. The post is full time but part time working (minimum 22 hours per week) is welcomed.
