Would you like to help us work with communities and partners to help achieve outcomes for the environment?
The role is primarily around learning and sharing to enable our use of citizen science to more to a more stable, considered and consistent footing. It will involve innovation and transformation, rather than pure delivery of existing citizen science initiatives.
Two specific work areas will be
• Direct engagement with a catchment, or citizen science initiative to facilitate EA support to the project. You will be involved in deciding where this focus should be
• Contribution to a national Water Quality Citizen Science Community of Practice, sharing and discussing innovations, learning and developing ways of working

Beyond these 2 specific work areas, you will engage with the wider citizen science initiative both internally and externally
The aims of the role include
• Understanding how Citizen Science can be used to achieve EA goals and wider benefits.
• Partners and stakeholders working together at a Catchment scale.
• Broaden the base of engagement and increase the diversity of communities and river types involved.
• Collaborative working with a catchment-based approach.
• Demonstrate the value of an integrated evidence base, through filling knowledge gaps.
This role will sit in the Environment Programme Team, but you will need to work extremely closely with other teams in the area and nationally to deliver this work
The Environment Programme Team work across area and with national teams and work closely with our external partners. We seek to deliver environmental outcomes and improvements through projects and collaboration
We are looking for someone who is educated to degree level in an appropriate discipline or can demonstrate relevant experience
You are comfortable with data and handling and interpretation.
You are a good communicator. You can talk to people at different levels (managers and team members). You can make technical information understandable and present it in different ways
You can work well in a team and appreciate how you fit with the wider goals of the team and the environment agency
You will have good problem solving abilities and be able to resolve issues including;
• Sharing and storage of third party data
• Integration of different sources of data and data platforms,
• Using different data resolutions most appropriately,
• robustness and reliability of data,

You will have experience or a good understanding of environment monitoring techniques and will be able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively
This role is based in North East Area. We are currently working in a hybrid way, with a mix of home and office working
