Are you passionate about Yorkshire’s rivers, lakes and coastal waters? Do you have an interest in water improvements?

This role is critical to developing and maintaining our evidence base and plans to improve our water environment in Yorkshire. In this role you’ll have the opportunity to use your environmental knowledge and data management skills to work across disciplines to facilitate environmental improvements.

You will work with internal and external partners developing and interpreting evidence across Yorkshire’s river catchments. You’ll provide guidance for how we will deliver and develop opportunities to improve the water environment, this includes building our Water Quality Monitoring information through:

- our catchment management system which helps us collect and report on Water Framework Directive (The Water Environment 2017),
- Yorkshires River basin management plan which puts ecology at the centre of how we manage and protect the water environment.
- Involvement in the assessment of the quality of designated bathing waters in Yorkshire under the Bathing Water Directive (BWD) which aims to protect public health and the environment from pollution at bathing waters.

You will work with data and mapping to develop project scopes and steer our strategic work to help deliver more for the environment.
Integrated Environment Planning strengthens our environmental evidence base, driving integrated delivery to achieve the best for Yorkshire’s environment.
Integrated planning is our ability to look at a defined geographical area and understand the pressures, risks and priorities. We join up our planning work to focus our resources, maximise the opportunities and talk to partners and communities about environmental concerns. This is fundamental to achieving our 25 Year Environment Plan ambitions.
You’ll be excellent communicator, experienced at making sense of technical information and presenting it in a clear and logical way
You’ll have influencing skills and be able to persuade internal teams and external partners to think strategically when delivering environmental outcomes.
You will have a good understanding of the Water Framework Directive and how it helps address the environmental challenges in Yorkshire. You will be aware of how it links with other legislation.
You should also be able to demonstrate political awareness when dealing with customers, stakeholders and communities.
Experience of working with data in a visual mapping context is desirable to help others access and use our evidence base.
Experience of delivering work within a programme and project management framework to time, cost and quality is desirable.
You’ll have a passion for the environment and want to work in a team who helps others improve our river quality.
Flexible working applications, part time working, compressed hours and job-share are all welcome.
We welcome applications from all sections of the community who wish to join an organisation which values everyone. We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), disabled, female and LGBT+ candidates, so that our team really does represent and understand the communities we work with.
The post is based in a Yorkshire office (Leeds, York, Beverley, Rotherham) with days working from home acceptable. You will be expected to travel to attend meetings, site visits and meet with partners throughout Yorkshire.
