Are you passionate about your environment and making it better for communities and wildlife for generations to come…. We are!

We are the Environment Agency, a non-departmental public body, established in 1995 and sponsored by the United Kingdom government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), with responsibilities relating to the protection and enhancement of the environment in England.
We protect and improve the environment. We look after land quality, promote sustainable land management and help protect and enhance wildlife habitats. We also work closely with businesses to help them comply with environmental regulations.

The deliberate mis-description of waste has been highlighted as a serious issue across the country. It diverts waste away from legitimate waste management and has great potential to damage and pollute the environment.
In one of our frontline Waste and Enforcement teams here in North East, you’ll help create a cleaner, safer and healthier environment. You’ll play an important role tackling environmental crime by identifying, preventing and disrupting waste crime, focusing your attention on mis-description of waste.
Sometimes we have to take tough action. You may be required to give evidence in a court of law.
The job is extremely varied and at times challenging.
You’ll have some experience of regulation or enforcement. Ideally you'll have an understanding of the waste industry and the reasons and motivations around waste crime and the mis-description of waste. A knowledge of the Duty of Care Code of Practice and Hazardous waste regulations would also be a great start.
You’ll be comfortable reviewing technical and scientific data and potentially laboratory reports to evidence if offences have occurred. A confident communicator, you may be required to present the findings to a Court.
Whatever your background, you’ll be interested in the environment and using environmental regulation and enforcement to make a real difference, even if this sometimes means dealing with confrontation.

What’s important is you demonstrate the right behaviours to join our team. We have a work culture we are extremely proud of and therefore it is important to have the right people to join us.
Closing Date: 31st January 2019 at 23:55
