• Improve and maintain the operation of the West Berkshire Groundwater Scheme and other Environment Agency engineering assets (Weirs, gates, pumps and control systems) in the South East. The majority of the work will be based in the Environment Agency Thames Area and Solent and South Downs Area. The role reports to the SE Meica Team Leader.
• Ensure that engineering work is carried out within both statutory legal and meets internal Environment Agency standards and procedures.
• You will be part of and work with a multi-disciplined team of MEICA engineers, planning both maintenance and improvement engineering works to budget and MEICA specifications.
• You will provide both clear instruction and advice to both contractors and Environment Agency Staff
• Working knowledge of the Construction Design and Management Regulations (2015). Experience as a CDM Designer in a relevant field would be an advantage.
• Replace / update outdated control systems (Panels) and associated water pumping and transfer equipment.
You will be part of the SE Supra Area Meica Team, reporting to the SE Meica Team Leader. The post holder will provide engineering advice and instruction to members of the West Berkshire Groundwater Scheme Project Team and where applicable to other engineering projects across the South East.
• The successful applicant will have a relevant MEICA qualification: be qualified to degree level or diploma level with significant relevant experience.
• Have a minimum of 5 years experience working in a related field
• Be a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or working towards these qualifications.
• Have a good understanding of pumping systems, their starting, drive, control systems and ideally associated telemetry systems.
• Be familiar with water control structures such as pumps and weirs.
• Be able to read and understand mechanical drawings, pump curves, pipework layouts and motor control drawings.
• Have an understanding of electrical safety and the requirements of BS7671.
• Demonstrate that they can communicate to both technical and non-technical staff.

The maintenance of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control & automation (MEICA) assets for the asset performance (AP) and South East UK MEICA teams are all undertaken by in-house mechanical crew and M&E external contractors, with the technical officer as the client's / asset owner's delivery manager.
Describe your experience of managing maintenance work and small to medium sized M&E projects; how do you manage, monitor and report on the works you have requested?
MEICA - Maintenance and work management systems
All M&E flood defence and river level-maintaining asset is categorised as a mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control & automation (MEICA) asset. In accordance with statutory legislation, i.e. PUWER 1998, these assets have to undergo 'planned / programmed' periodic maintenance, and records of this, including replacement and modification, have to be compiled and stored.
What is your understanding and knowledge of why maintenance is required, and your experience of delivering / supervising / reviewing maintenance works?
Provide example(s) of when you have managed the maintenance of engineering equipment. How did you ensure that maintenance was carried out to the correct standards, correct frequency, and was delivered on-time to cost? What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome these?

What training or awareness of Safety Health & Environment do you have and how do you apply this in a maintenance and / or M&E project delivery setting in the protection of people and the environment?
A full driving licence and the ability to travel from office to sites is essential
Be a member of an engineering organisation such as the IET. Ideally hold professional membership be a chartered or a incorporated engineer, or working to these qualifications by a target date.
