You’ll be part of the Customers and Engagement Team working day to day with another area team. You’ll work with colleagues across the business to develop and deliver an engagement strategy to ensure that partners, customers, businesses and communities prepare for and mitigate the impacts of prolonged dry weather on current water availability in our region; balancing the needs of people and agriculture and protecting the environment.

You’ll build an engagement strategy and plan, you’ll implement actions and co-ordinate engagement activities across the area to ensure our work is targeted, effective, innovative and efficient and that we have an approach for ongoing engagement.

Specific responsibilities will include:
• Develop an engagement strategy to achieve short and long term aims
• Engage with partners, customers and communities
• Ensure colleagues have relevant and up-to-date information to enhance their ongoing engagement
• Keep stakeholder analysis and engagement plans up-to-date
• Monitor and record engagement activity across the programme
• Identify new opportunities for engagement
• Engage Defra Communications to promote appropriate messages
• Compile written case studies of completed engagement

The work will require some travel across the East Anglian area and to other Environment Agency offices.
The Customers and Engagement team is a centre of excellence for customer service and reputation management. We have an important role in managing relationships that are essential to our reputation and business delivery; providing support, guidance and training to other teams. We provide engagement advice on projects and contentious issues; helping prepare clear and consistent messages around sensitive and emotive issues. We are a professional, friendly, people focused team.
We are looking for a real people person; you’ll be an excellent communicator and experienced engagement practitioner confident in engaging with communities and organisations. This will have been gained through experience in planning and delivering, large or strategic, external and internal engagement to achieve behavioural change.

You’ll have an awareness of local and national politics and experience of producing high quality, plain English letters, briefings and engagement materials. You’ll demonstrate judgement and tact when dealing with challenging situations and briefing more senior colleagues and customers.

It would be desirable for you to be familiar with water abstraction licensing, though not essential, and to have an interest in environmental issues linked to climate change.

A full UK driving licence is essential.
