We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven Environmental Monitoring Officer to help lead, carry out and deliver our environmental monitoring and investigations programme. The role will focus on delivering our freshwater ecological quality assessment and reporting work, as well as the laboratory processing of invertebrate samples. The ability to respond to biological pollution incidents will also be a key feature of the role as will the ability to design, plan and carry out specialist surveys for aquatic plants and invertebrates. Cross team working and participation in catchment delivery groups will also be an important part of the job.
The Analysis & Reporting team provides freshwater biological and water quality data to support and feed into all monitoring obligations. We deliver a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency’s statutory responsibilities relating to national and European legislation.
We are seeking an individual with a good knowledge of freshwater ecosystems. The successful candidate is likely to have several years’ experience in ecological fieldwork and laboratory work in freshwater invertebrate identification, with the ability to manipulate and analyse biological datasets using relevant metrics and appropriate statistical methods. Good skills in report writing together with the ability to present complex ecological issues to a wide audience, is also required.
