This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who would like to work as part of a national team across the Defra group and directly contribute to making our fleet more sustainable and efficient.

We are looking for an experienced project support officer to assist on the delivery of high profile projects within Defra Group Fleet Services (DGFS). In this role, the successful candidate will help deliver real change in the way we do business, to make a genuine contribution to reducing the environmental impact of our fleet, and will allow us to save money, become more efficient and allow greater engagement with our workforce.

The post-holder will work closely with two Senior Project Managers within DGFS to:

• Deliver the Reducing fleet emissions, FleetSHARE, and future mobility solutions projects;
• Monitor the delivery of work streams against plans, chasing and facilitating progress as appropriate;
• Enable the smooth running of the project by ensuring the operation of project management processes, and the co-ordination of business management actions and activities on their behalf.
Defra Group Fleet Services provides a collaborative fleet service to all organisations within the Defra group. The Fleet Safety and Environment team deliver several strategic aims including undertaking regular audits of assets and supply chains and reviewing all serious safety incidents to learn lessons and implement actions; implementing a fleet environment strategy that includes air quality and carbon targets; and embedding sustainability into everything we do.
It is important that candidates have experience of working on major projects or delivering strategies across businesses. You must be flexible and motivated and able to work in a dispersed team. You will enable the smooth running of the projects by strengthening the operation of project management processes, and the co-ordination of business management actions and activities on behalf of the project managers.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

• Experience of building productive relationships with internal and external Stakeholders such as Project Managers and Business Owners;
• identification and management of risks, issues and dependencies;
• planning, preparing, monitoring and reporting on project plans to progress;
• ability to work to tight timescales, managing priorities and ensuring delivery of quality products;
• ability to communicate verbally and in writing clearly to a non-technical audience.
The location is flexible, but one of the National Hubs would be preferred. You'll understand and be comfortable with the challenges of remote working and management. Some travel will be required, including occasional overnight stays.
