Develops, reviews, audits and assures fluvial flood models using technical knowledge and experience to draw conclusions and support decisions. This includes undertaking an expert technical advisor role within project teams.

Selects the most appropriate tools and techniques for hydrological assessments and advises the organisation on hydraulic modelling approaches.

Acts as a ‘point of contact’ for providing professional/technical expertise in flood modelling to the Environment Agency and partner organisations.

Provides technical leadership, coaching, mentoring and inspiration to others within Modelling and Forecasting carrying out similar activities and monitoring the delivery and productivity of team’s workload.
Our teams provide leadership, technical expertise and specialist advice on building, running and analysing detailed mathematical models. The outputs are used to describe flood risk, providing evidence for determining potential impacts on communities and inform flood risk decision making.

We are experts in river flooding and hydrology. We support the delivery of flood incident and drought response, working closely with a range of partners, including water companies environmental consultants and the national Flood Forecasting Centre.
Through experience to date you will be able to demonstrate some of the following:

• You will have expert knowledge and / or considerable experience in hydraulic modelling.
• A technical lead in industry standard flood modelling and GIS software packages, highly computer literate.
• You will be able to work under pressure and be skilled at making decisions and acting on them
• Your skills in influencing and persuading people at senior levels
• Data management and standards will be part of everything you do and you will have attuned and expert analytical skills
• You will be willing to work flexibly, including taking on a suitable out of hours duty role
• Experience in prioritising high profile programmes / projects and the ability to manage your own workload and support others to balance theirs.
• Professional membership of a relevant body such as CIWEM or ICE.
