We have a temporary grade 3 vacancy for a Hydrologist to join a busy team working across the West Midlands area. We can offer a training package over the eight month assignment to help you build your skills and knowledge within the role. You will help us to regulate, protect and enhance the water environment. Your role will be to collate, analyse and interpret hydrological information necessary for effective water resource management. This will include contributing to producing the water situation and hydrological monitoring reports, supporting the Team to complete quality assurance of river flow data and technical assessments into the impact of water abstractions on river flows. You will work closely with your hydrology team members and support provision of professional advice and technical assessments on hydrological issues to customers and partners. Your work will inform decision making and contribute to protecting and improving the environment
The West Midlands Hydrology Team currently consists of 7 Hydrologists delivering work across Shropshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and West Midlands. The Team provides technical expertise and advice on a range of water resource management projects including Water Framework Directive, Catchment Abstraction Management Strategies, Restoring Sustainable Abstraction programme, water resource management plans, drought plans and determining water resources licences.
Ideally, you will have a degree in geography or environmental sciences and where possible practical hydrology training. You will have an understanding of hydrological concepts, data and techniques. You will have experience of analysis and interpretation of data and information to inform decision making and problem solving.
You should be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and preferable ArcGIS skills.
You should have good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. You will deliver work to high standards and be able to prioritise tasks to achieve results.
