Basic Check
We are looking for a motivated individual who is willing to get stuck into a wide variety of practical and desk-based activities at our Kielder Salmon Centre in the heart of Northumberland National Park.

We need a Facilities Management Officer to keep the Centre as a safe, well maintained, and legally compliant workplace. In joining our small team, you would occasionally help with the rearing of Salmon, Trout, and endangered Pearl mussels. No prior experience of fish husbandry is required, just a willingness to learn.

The Facilities Management role is key to ensuring important conservation work continues and will make a real-world difference.

Role includes:
• Administration and compliance checking of on-site systems
• The procurement and management of contractors visiting the site
• Support with the delivery of construction projects at the Salmon Centre
• Delivery of our Internal Environmental Management targets
• Working with internal staff and contractors to deliver our Carbon Net Zero strategy and assist with our Internal Environmental management targets
• Assisting with general site operations which include: site maintenance and cleaning of the grounds and buildings to maintain a great working environment; assisting with the care of fish and pearl mussel stocks when necessary.
The successful candidate will work alongside three friendly and passionate members of staff who manage this unique centre; rear fish; and our pioneering Pearl Mussel Programme.

They are supported by our wider Fisheries and Biodiversity Teams in our Newcastle Office.

This post requires Facilities Management experience within an office and/or depot setting. The ideal person will be happy to get involved in a wide range of site management tasks and enjoy working in a team.
Essential:
Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) and proven ability and/or knowledge of:-
- Facilities Management or similar, Health & Safety, Premises Maintenance and Internal Environmental Management
- Building relationships with customers, experience of customer service and experience of practical problem solving
- Managing contractors and suppliers. Ideally, with an understanding of how their activities fit with our organisational goals and wider reputation.
- Excellent communication and team working skills.

Desirable knowledge of:
- Compliance regulations for premises
- Project management experience
- Monitoring & providing property performance reports
- Creation and implementation of Planned Preventative Maintenance schedules
This post is based at Kielder Salmon Centre, near Kielder Village in Northumberland. Kielder Village has a small, active community, a local primary school and lots of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Kielder Water and Forest Park is a haven for wildlife and has dark sky status.
Our Salmon Centre provides an excellent education centre alongside a working salmon and sea trout hatchery.

Training in basic fish husbandry will be provided.

As part of the team, you would have standby cover/keyholder responsibilities for the site.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss the role, please contact our Hatchery Manager, Richard Bond - richard.bond@environment-agency.gov.uk
