This is an exciting opportunity within the Environment Agency’s Air Quality Modelling and Assessment Unit (AQMAU). As a technical officer you will work in a team of other professionals to review and interpret air quality and/or noise impact assessments using predictive modelling software. This will include carrying out complex modelling studies, developing software tools and providing advice and training to operational colleagues. You’ll also have the opportunity to get involved in incident response.
The AQMAU team provides the Environment Agency’s national air dispersion and noise modelling expertise. We provide regulatory advice to support permitting, compliance and major incidents, helping protect the local population and ecological sites from regulated industry. The work we do impacts on permitting decisions and how a site can legally operate.
We’re seeking a highly numerate individual to work in the fields of air quality and/or noise modelling. You will have:
• A degree or equivalent in a science or engineering discipline.
• A proven ability to analyse data and solve problems to make decisions.
• Strong interpersonal and team-working skills.
• Excellent customer focus.
• Ideally some experience in air quality or noise modelling; computer programming or working in a regulated industry.

You’ll be comfortable managing your own work and communicating complex technical issues effectively.
This is a permanent post. It can be based in any Environment Agency office.

• 2 Technical advisors – 1 permanent; 1 fixed term (2 years)
• 2 Senior technical advisors – 1 permanent; 1 fixed term (2 years)
