Our coastal modelling and forecasting advisors provide expert technical advice to help build a country more resilient to climate change.

As a coastal modelling and forecasting advisor you will provide expert advice to a range of partners (including risk management authorities, lead local flood authorities and coast protection authorities). Your advice will help inform our partners in how to appropriately manage coastal flood risk at a community or national scale, including the effects of coastal change taking into account the impacts of flooding, coastal erosion, and climate change

In this role, you will:

• Lead on the development of coastal modelling and forecasting approaches

• You will provide technical leadership and coach/mentor others ensuring effective knowledge transfer and development of staff.

• Develop/review/audit and assure coastal process models and undertake an expert technical advisor role within project teams.

• Select the most appropriate tools/techniques and advise on potential improvements in the field of coastal change.

• Act as a ‘point of contact’ for providing professional/technical expertise in coastal modelling/forecasting to the Environment Agency and other Risk Management Authorities.

• You will have an interest in diversity and nurturing other viewpoints and have a passion for developing yourself and others.
Evidence and Risk teams provide evidence and advice on a range of environmental risks. Our hydrological expertise alongside our fluvial and coastal modelling and forecasting information is used in decision making for flood and coast risk management including new and improved flood defences, land use planning (to avoid inappropriate development in the floodplain) and incident management, including emergency planning, response and recovery, so that we can better prepared and more resilient to hazards.
You will be able to:

• Understand the business of Flood Coastal Erosion Risk Management and the importance of evidence and risk.
• Technical leadership in modelling/forecasting of coastal processes;
• Working knowledge of GIS software, and highly computer literate
• Excellent communication skills, ability to build relationships, collaborating and agreeing expectations to deliver outcomes.
• Successful influencing/persuading skills
• You'll achieve results, directly and through others.
• Experience in prioritising high profile programmes/projects and the ability to manage your own workload;
• Good judgment, problem solving and decision making skills;
